Using the Bavarian Autosport fault code tool, I’m getting the following 3 fault codes and I’m not sure what they mean or what I need to do to solve the problem.
7b = Map controlled thermostat
12 = Exhaust camshaft position sensor
41 = Intake camshaft position sensor
On another note, my vehicle has been shutting off when I come to a stop on occasions. I plan to replace the fuel filter, do you think that would help. Note: Vehicle has over 90K miles. Just replaced plugs and coils.

With the codes noted, you likely do indeed need to replace the thermostat and the two camshaft sensors. The thermostats on most BMW engines from 2000-01 on are electrically controlled. Each of these items is a common fault on the M54 6-cylinder engines. Additionally, faulty cam position sensors can cause the stalling that you are experiencing. The Bentley repair manual will cover replacement of these items.

Certainly, at 90,000 miles, you should be changing the fuel filter, but this is not likely the source of the stalling or the fault codes.
