  One of the most unique games of it's kind, L.A. Noire is a tribute to old noir films of it's era. While it is open-world most missions are cases that serve as the main story. Don't go into it expecting 1940s gta because since you are a detective you cannot commit any crimes. Go into it expecting a more linear experience akin to Mafia 2. 19.99 is reasonable, but on sale this is an absolute must.

  This was revolutionary in gaming technology. Key word being WAS.
  I find myself having difficulty reviewing this game. It's such a mixed bag.
  In a nutshell, This game is fine. Just fine.
  The story follows you, a police officer played by aaron staton (More famously Ken Cosgrove from 'Mad Men') as you solve cases in 40's Post war Los Angeles. Rockstar did well developing the enviroment. It does actually feel like i'm in a different period when I play this game. The story is solid, the characters are well written, and yes, the faces look legit. Thats pretty much the reason that I play the game.
  The game is on the other hand, a game made for consoles. The port is cancer.
  Good luck trying to boot it on windows 7. I had to jump through hoops just to get it playable.
  Oh by the way, there is a 30 fps cap. Read it agian. 30 FPS CAP. Even though you can disable it in the game files, the game really doesnt want you to. The reasoning behind this is that the facial animations were only RECORDED in 30 fps. you have the game running at 60 and the faces running at 30 and you get some weird graphical errors. Not to mention that on top of this the game is horrendously optimized. I mean cmon bondai. The game looks mediocre even for the gen it was made for, and you still can't make it run on older hardware.
  Anyhoo, Game is still fun enough to play because of the characters and actors.
  I'd reccomend it, but barely.

  Many have complained that the game wont start. The soultion is to, turn off 'Beta testing' option in Steam and the game will work again. The other problem people might have is 30 fps, this can be fixed by using the 'wide screen' option in desktop/ graphics option prior to the game menu.
  This is a flawed masterpiece and one of my absolute favourites along with GTA, Max Payne and Mafia 2.
  L.A. Noire's absorbing investigations and intoxicating sense of Noir style make it an unforgettable journey through the seamy side of the City of Angels.
  L.A. still had streetcars in 1947, but it was a city quickly becoming dominated by the automobile, and that's the only way to travel in L.A. Noire. Thankfully, driving is fun.
  The gunplay is very easy to pick up. You can hide behind cover, and pop out to squeeze off shots.
  L.A. Noire isn't all about badgering people, though. This is still an open-world game. You're free to deviate from a case, explore faithfully recreated 1947 Los Angeles, and tackle more action-oriented missions. No, you can't run wild like in Grand Theft Auto (you're a cop, accept it), but there are some other things to do. Forty 'unassigned cases' come in as calls on the radio.
  Gunfights, foot chases, car chases, and the occasional simple brawl don't just spring up during cases. They're also a regular part of the street crimes that are reported over the radio, which you can choose to respond to or ignore. The voice acting is good and the visual face effect when someone is tense after telling a lie, is brilliant made.
  The game has car chases, gunfights, and a point-tally to judge the quality of your police justice, but it's a slow-paced, meditative experience. The focus isn't on how good you are at scoring headshots with a pistol but instead your ability to read a suspect's face and determine if he or she is telling the truth, holding something back, or flat out lying.
  I felt that even if the game had 21 cases, some of which can take more than an hour to complete, L.A. Noire drags at times because it recycles the same drama and you cant help feeling a sense of Deja Vu. There's an omniscient narrator in the early missions of L.A. Noire who disappears halfway through and never returns. I also felt that Phelt story was forcefully told and often too hasty and in bits so you never get the whole picture about his personality or his past.

  If you like jazz motifs 40 years, the days of black-and-white film, and especially if you like detective stories with lots of crime, mystery, mysteries, chases and revelations then this is your game!!
  Pluses of the game:
  + A good story.
  + The atmosphere.
  + Non-standard gameplay.
  + Good animation and voice.
  Cons of the game:
  - Outdated graphics.
  - Some monotony in the gameplay and the lack of side missions.
  - Locke 30 FPS.

  Long story short, I found out that with an old, alternate version of L.A. Noire installed along with the Steam version that the Steam version worked perfectly. No Steam files were modified which led me to check the registry for changes.
  I used a registry compare tool and found out exactly which keys were added by installing the alternate version. I exported the 4 error handler keys and have included the download link here. Run these and the game should run just fine!
  I sincerely hope this helps you and that you're able to enjoy this incredible game once again!

  I'm (like most of the people here) unable to launch this game due to recent 'patch'
  Seriously Rockstar, this is beyond epic fail. FYI I'm a fan of this game with `100% completion rate and platinum trophy on PS3. I don't think it's a bad game, I just find Rockstar's execution for PC port terrible.
  Update: I have found myself a fix to get it working. The similar method which I used to get it working was posted by Nightbreed down below this review.

  Game is broken on Win 10 and will not start.
  Update: I tried all sorts of things I found: Execution as administrator (Steam and LAN), fixes from unsecure sources, which replaced some of the game files, I installed the Social Club manually, looked for certain C++ fixes(there was some specific .dll which causes the crash) and played around with the 3.5-.Net-Framework, I installed the game new.. without results.

  If you think its my fault, look at the community posts. Me and my PC brothers banded together to fix the gamebreaking issue your UNNECESARY BROKEN PATCH CAUSED.
  (Which u havent fixed yet officialy after over a month) PS. You could have just rolledback the patch or fixed the corrupted files you added as easy as that.

  Probably a very good game - shame I tried everything but couldn't launch it.
  I tried every fix listed on the internet (adding the two files, admin, 256colors, compatibility mode, UAC, admin mode, dx11/dx9, -str , -windowed, low settings , etc).
  So I already spent a good 4 hours trying to find a fix and I haven't found it. I won't spend any more time trying to fix a game that should work as soon as I install it.
  Money grabbing port.
  Refunded.
  I'm off to buying a game that works, and has no socialclub or whatever.
  Never buying a Rockstar game again, and thank you steam for allowing refunds.

  Jazz+LA= Noire.
  This game was eons ahead of it's time. In terms of mechanics and overall concept.
  Cole's character is very complex and wonderful to watch unfold.
  This is tied with Max Payne 3 and RDR for favorite Rockstar games.

  This game is such a nice change of point of view, we don't really have any great detective simulator games and this one does an amazingly in depth take on crime fighting.   Some games have better storyline than movies or even books.
  Combine wonderful storyline with 40s America and rising Hollywood, and You will get one of the best games ever.

  + Great story.
  + Great gameplay.
  + Great graphics (The game came out in 2010).
  + Great soundtracks.
  + Great voice acting.
  + Funny face expressions.
  Once you start playing this game and you get into it, its really hard to quit it until you finish all the cases. One case closing open's another case. The game is so well made, and I highly recommend this game to everyone who likes a good detection and mystery game.
